"Psst. Hey you, yeah you in Rhinelander and around Rhinelander. I’m looking for books, you got any books?” If you have extra books in your home, get rid of them. Run, don’t walk, and take them to owners Jeff and Cindy W. at their terrific bookstore, JC Weddle Books. You can donate them if you like or can receive cash in return. Despite the fact that they are continually looking to buy books at auctions, book sales, online sales, estate sales, and garage sales they are always looking for even more to replenish their inventory. To me, this is a sign that things are going well and that’s exactly what co-owner Cindy confirmed to me when I asked. JC Weddle is almost three years old and has shown solid business growth each year. Cindy told me they sell about 20,000 books a year (they do a great job of low pricing) but since their inventory is only 20-30,000 books, they need more inventory. You know what to do Rhinelander.
JC Weddle Books offers mostly used books with a few new popular releases. They do a few sales online through eBay, including vintage and collectible editions. I thought the inventory was excellent. There are also a wide variety of sidelines that appeal to any age group. Greeting cards, journals, candy, puzzles, art, and so much more. Even if you’re not a reader, there is something here for everyone. (And be sure to check out the very creative bathroom for an experience you won’t get online. Nice job Jeff and Cindy)
The Rhinelander area is surrounded by multiple lakes making this an attractive region for tourists. JC Weddle enjoys visits from many of these people along with their solid core of regulars. Visitors to the store will find a one-level space with multiple rooms that allows for an enjoyable browsing experience. Parking is free and available on street as close as right in front of the store. Visitors coming here from Chicago have the recently added travel option of taking a direct flight to Rhinelander.
Cindy was fantastic to meet and visit with and I know regulars can tell you that too. Bring in your used books and THEN, enjoy browsing for more to replace them. Go to an indie and buy a book. Bonsoir.
JUST FINISHED: Mama, Terry McMillan. Count this author among the many excellent Black women authors. The story begins in the 1960s with Mildred Peacock, the mother of four daughters and one son, and a drunk and useless husband. Mildred is a drinker who keeps her family one step ahead of poverty. As the children grow into adulthood, they encounter many of the same problems as their mama; poverty, substance abuse, broken relationships, and crime. Thoroughly enjoyed this. Recommended.
CURRENTLY READING: Mean Spirit, Linda Hogan.
RECENTLY PURCHASED: Fatherland, Robert Harris.
