Hey citizens of Kansas City and surrounding environs, wake up!  Reader's World in Lee's Summit has been here for 3 1/2 years now and unbelievably, some of you haven't discovered it yet.  What gives? You have a great bookstore, support it!  This bookstore will appeal to all ages and all interests, but kids will absolutely love this place.  In case you haven't heard, bookstores are the in thing and are getting stronger again.  Reader's World is part of the renaissance.

Reader's World is part of an independent bookstore chain consisting of 7 stores in the central Missouri region.  The one in Lee's Summit is representative of those and has lots to offer bookstore fans.  The one-level store is located in a shopping strip surrounded by several other small businesses.  They offer all new books and a wide variety of sidelines.  Kids will find lots to like in this store including puzzles, games, a line of Melissa and Doug toys, and much more.  Some of the best sidelines are those items associated with Dr. Who.  You'll also find all those other unique items only seen in independent bookstores.  And of course there's lots of stuff here for the Kansas City Royals fans.  As for books, YA, children's, and sci-fi are all particularly strong here.

Reader's World is active in so many ways to bring customers to the store.  There are frequent author events held on-site.  Weekly story time is held in the children's section.  I encourage teachers to visit here since you'll get a discount even on personal items.  I can't imagine many places with a better selection of magazines.  If you like to knit or crochet, you should drop in on the weekly knitters club.  Bookstores provide lots of opportunities to visit their stores and Reader's World is no different.

I had a great time talking to Jacqueline J., one of the booksellers, during my visit.  She shared with me lots about Reader's World and the business.  When Border's went out of business in this area, many of those employees came here.  It was a win-win for Reader's World.  These people all had bookstore experience but now had the flexibility of working for an indie and making store decisions as they preferred for themselves and their customers.

So yes, go see the Royals, go see the Chiefs, go to the Truman Library.  And now include a visit with the kids to a sparkling bookstore in Lee's Summit.  There's no way you'll leave empty-handed.  Go to an indie and buy a book.  Bonsoir.
